A
bit about us: Shortwood
is a 150 acre farm set in the parish of Little Cowarne in the
county of Herefordshire, and has been farmed by the Legge family
since 1903, We gained full organic status (Soil Association)
in 2000. The main enterprise on the farm is the dairy herd with
the milk being marketed through the Organic Milk Suppliers Cooperative
(OMSCO). Dairy heifers are reared on the farm as herd replacements.
Another enterprise is the herd of free range Berkshire pigs
which are kept to supply pork for our son's butcher shop in
Bromyard (Legges of Bromyard). The whole farm is down to grass
which provides summer grazing and winter forage for the animals.
There is 10 acres of ancient woodland in which the traditional
art of coppicing has recently been re-established. Other animals
on the farm, including ponies, donkeys, Jacob sheep, Kune-Kune
pigs, assorted poultry and guinea pigs are largely for the benefit
of the visiting public

about our Organic farm
We will tell you all about how we produce
organic milk, how we look after our organic calves,
pigs, sheep and poultry. Watch the cows being milked
by machine and see how they are fed by computer.
Farm

There are miniature Shetland ponies,
donkeys, pigs, cows, calves, chickens, sheep, and ducks

- Mini
Farm World
This has something for all
ages, but will be of particular interest to little people
with shorter legs or for those who don't want to walk
too far. As the name suggests, Mini Farm World is home
to our smaller animals and birds. There's a collection
of ornamental poultry breeds, rabbits, guinea pigs,
miniature goats, ponies and pigs. Take a stroll past
the duck ponds and through our newly landscaped garden
area where you can sit and relax for a while as you
watch the animals.
